But as many bands have evolved fleeing away from black metal patterns and traits, SOLEFALD still keep the black essence but painting an amalgam of influences in the canvas of their songs. Like expert painters, they combine the different colours and textures to create something close to a musical masterpiece. So, this way, you can listen to various musical manifestations in "Neonism": some parts can remind us classic black metal tunes, others suggest progressive metal landscapes, and there are some electronic affairs, too, but nothing really annoying or lengthy. If I had to name an album similar to "Neonism" Iīd say ARCTURUSī "La masquerade infernale". Specially in the vocal parts, both of them are in the same vein, and the music is equally bizarre and manifold, but SOLEFALD are more agressive and frenzied, more grotesque in the lyrical side and less romantic, in a certain way. The keyboard arrangements are very good, very melodic without falling into cheesy easy lines and very progressive music inspired. The instrumental work is also remarkable, with intrincate parts here and there, the same as the vocals, varied enough to enrich the sound further. Production could be better, all the instruments can be heard, but sometimes itīs a bit weak and messy, lacking power in the whole of the sound. Of course, you must be at least a bit open-minded to savour this opus, since it hasnīt much to do with classic black metal acts, itīs a step forward from this, incorporating elements from other styles of music in a very convincing way, until the point that sometimes "Neonism" canīt look like black metal as we know it, but somehow this album manages to reach unique cathartic peaks while listening to it. Manifold are the feelings conveyed on it, but in my opinion euphoria and psychodelic wrath are the main issues that come to my soul when "Neonism" is played around me.
