The Sex Pistols Are Not Hall of Fame Monkeys

Just a few months ago we announced that the Sex Pistols were slated for induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame as well as some other bands. Apparently the remaining Sex Pistol members are not having it. They say that “next to the Sex Pistols, rock and roll and that hall of fame is a piss stain”, and that they are not their “monkeys”. The hand written letter with their statement is posted at the Sex Pistols website as well as Johnny Rotten’s. Full article at BBC News.

Ok this is about the sex pistols not green day so please get back to talking about the pistols. The sex pistols along with john lydon have always been inovative in both the punk lifestyle and in punk music. What they are doing right now by not going to the rock and roll hall of fame induction is the same thing that they have been doing since they became somewhat big back in 1977 they are sticking up their middle finger and saying fuck it. The sex pistols have never been a band that focused on making money or becoming famous they play punk music because of their love for punk music and the rock and roll hall of fame doesnt mean anything to them they will be just as famous no matter if they go to the induction or not so who really gives a fuck. Props to the pistols for standing up and doing what they belive in much like what they have been doing for almost 30 years. Also whoever said Sid was an asshole can go to neverland and get butt raped by Michael Jackson he was his own person just like lydon is he never imitated anyone and those are big words from someone who probally tries way to hard to make everyone at his school think hes punk. So so on Sex Pistols. Not as good as Clash or early Damned. They got attention more for their punk attitude than for their music. Plus, I’ve never struck a chord with the Johnny Rotten-type persona. Oh and I do know enough to say that Sid was an asshole (and I have no clue why some people think he was a god).
Green Day does not suck. Granted they’re earlier albums are more raw, and less catered to pop sensibilities, but their new music is good (save some of the slow tempo ventures, i.e. Wake Me Up). I could say the same for Alkaline Trio. Like it or not folks, pop-punk is still punk. And the Buzzcocks aren’t bad idols for a band to follow if you ask me. Hell- a lot of people say Screeching Weasel is pop-punk.
Why does every thread have a rant on Green Day? And retards talking in bastard Spanish/Portugese? The world may never know.
Can any of you fucking define emo? As much as I hate the term, one of my favorite bands, Coheed, has come to be one of its many representations. Fuck the generalizations and listen to the individual bands. I mean I like Weezer, Coheed, and AFI; but I don’t like NFG, Taking Back Sunday, or Hoobastank in any possible way.

the pistols are awesome and completely deserving because decades after the release(s) of their albums, we’re all still listening to them and not getting bored with it! there must be something to it if it only took them two years of fame to make the impact they did…yay sex pistols!!!!!!!!

If you’re going to make an argument against any band, type of music, or anything really, atleast use proper grammar. I was lucky enough to catch the pistols on their last (?) tour of the USA, they were tight and entertaining and reminded me why I was drawn to punk rock. If we look back at the message of the band which was to inject some life into the music of the day (late seventies) they more than any other group were responsible for the direction of the modern sounds of today. We still hear their influence in the 21st century. Not only were they musically innovative but they expressed political feelings that reflected their (blank) generation. After the bloated excess of rock n roll of the time, they were a breath of fresh air to my ears! Do they belong in the hall of fame? Of course they do!! Were they justified in not accepting the award? Yes, I would have been disappointed if they had. They have always been the most honest band on the planet.

They are both excellent bands in their own way. Don’t talk about style of music until you have truly listened to all types old/new shit, emo/hardcore/softcore/metal/heavy/punk.
