Metalocalypse

Monday, August 7th, 2006

From the mind of the musically talented Brendon Small, that brought us the hilarious and underated Home Movies cartoon, comes the Norwegian metal band, Dethklok, showcasing their own new show, Metalocalypse, on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim. James Hetfield and Kirk Hammett of Metallica even do the voices of a couple fan characters that appear in the premier episode.

Felix toons the original punk rock band… The Ramones. They originally formed in Queens, NY in 1974 with a lineup of Joey, Johnny and Dee Dee Ramone (Ramone not being their birthnames). They’re basic rock sound with a fast tempo and catchy songs would set the stage for a New York punk rock scene and be followed by the birth of many more punk rock bands including the British born Sex Pistols (who put a violent spin on punk).

Here’s a video of the Ramones playing their popular I Want To Be Sedated anthem…

Aizat’s second toon offering here at the site as a RockToons artist is 3 Inches of Blood. They are a six-piece band from Canada with an 80’s metal sound. With much touring and their first full length album, Battlecry, making its rounds through the underground metal scene they developed a large following and eventually signed with Roadrunner Records.

Jimi Hendrix

Monday, July 3rd, 2006

Felix already has another RockToon for your consumption. Here is his very cool rendition of rock legend Jimi Hendrix.

Hendrix actually was only able to enjoy super-stardom for four years. But in that time he blew the doors of the electric guitar wide open. Unfortunately like many music legends he died a drug related death in the year 1970.

Check out this video clip of Hendrix performing “Fire” at Woodstock…
