Returning

the Misfits. That's all
for another fun filled week here at RockToons. Have a great
weekend!
Thursday,
June 30, 2005:
Guest
artist Henry Kaye toons former glam rocker and Velvet Underground
head
Lou Reed.
Wednesday, June 29, 2005:
Vocalist/guitarist
Wayne Static was introduced to drummer Ken Jay by Billy Corgan of
the Smashing Pumpkins in a Chicago record store where Ken worked.
They headed out west to California, got a couple more guys and
started the band you know as
Static-X. They've had some lineup switches and changes but
nevertheless they are presently recording a new album.
Tuesday, June 28, 2005:
Remember
the RockToons Collaboration 2005? Where one artist would sketch a
toon and another would finish it? Well, we still got a couple
coming in, here is the flamboyant
Elton John by Tyler and Ivy Beth, deserving his spot here
being a long time eccentric icon of rock.
Friday,
June 24, 2005:
Sloan
was one of the most successfull Canadian bands of the 90's.
Returning guest artist Carling Ruffee just had some fun with this
one.
Wednesday, June 22, 2005:
Nina
treats us to some new artwork of the Swiss black metal group,
Samael. They are known for being
both original and innovative with their sound. By their second
full length album they incorporated keyboards & really began to
find their unique style the following album referring to
their songs as "macabre operettas".
Tuesday,
June 21, 2005:
Returning
guest artist Justin Krahn tooned a returning guest art subject,
Rob Zombie.
Monday,
June 20, 2005:
Bad
Religion, who debuted in 1982, maintained their underground
hardcore punk status for over a decade. It was not until 1993 that
they released an album on a major label. Guest art by Roberto
Parodi.
Friday,
June 17, 2005:
Since
1978, Mike Ness has lead his LA punk band
Social
Distortion down a long road of lineup changes and
heroin hiatuses to get where they are today. Guest art by Romney.
Thursday,
June 16, 2005:
Paula
Miller brings us guest art of
Green
Day. Billy Joe Armstrong and company helped usher in
revivalist punk to a new generation with catchy three-chord
punk-pop songs.
Wednesday,
June 15, 2005:
My
Chemical Romance guest art by Roswell Taylor. Lead singer
Gerard Way was actually working in the animation field in New York
city before starting the band early this decade.
Tuesday,
June 14, 2005:
REM's
rise to stardom was a slow one that started back in the early
80's. For years they were an underground band that developed
a cult following. Guest art by Gary Day.
Monday,
June 13, 2005:
Guest
artist Carling Ruffee returns with
Layne Staley of Alice In
Chains. Their major influence of alt-metal musical style gave
birth to such bands as Godsmack, Days of the New, Puddle of Mudd,
Creed & Nickelback. Unfortunately Mr. Staley died of a drug
overdose in the Spring of 2002.
Friday,
June 10, 2005:
Stanley
Eisen & Gene Klein (later
Paul
Stanley & Gene Simmons) started Kiss in the early 70's. When
each band member released solo albums, Stanley's sounded most like
Kiss, so it's believed he had the most influence on their music.
Thursday,
June 9, 2005:
Whoa,
whoa, whoa! We almost let a whole month get by without a new
Mudvayne toon. This one was created by guest artist Justin
Krahn.
Wednesday, June 8, 2005:
Today
Felix pays tribute to Dimebag
Darrel of Pantera fame. Sadly, he was shot to death on stage
last December while playing in his and his brother's latest
project, Damageplan. Dimebag is and will remain on record as one
of the best guitarists in history.
Tuesday,
June 7, 2005:
Guest
artist Dylan Kerrision has tooned
Wednesday 13 of such bands
as Wednesday 13, Frankenstein Drag Queens From Planet 13 and the
Murderdolls.
Monday,
June 6, 2005:
Returning
back to the late 70's British punk movement we have
Joy Division, who also
made a smooth transition into the post punk movement, a transition
taking punk from anger to expression. This guest piece was done by
RA.
Friday,
June 3, 2005:
And
on the opposite spectrum from dark German goth you have mainstream
Arkansas goth... Evanescence.
This toon of Amy Lee was done by returning guest artist Marc
Arthofer.
Thursday, June 2, 2005:
Welcome
back to this week's edition of KreepyToons dot com. It seems the
women of RockToons have a bit of a dark side, Tara has tooned for
us Sopor Aeternus, hey,
can those Germans do goth or what? When not in the studio, they
enjoy talking to people that are not there, playing with dead
things and eating small children.
Wednesday, June 1, 2005:
Maria
tooned a nice little black metal band from Norway (aka viking
metal) named
Emperor.
Their work is influenced by Norwegian Folk music, classical music
and all the dark sinister powers of hell... must... go.. find... a
happy place...
Tuesday,
May 31, 2005:
Alejandro
Gutierrez has created some guest art of
Slipknot. We would provide
some interestingly useless fact about the band but we've never
heard of them. The members look as though they have been
disfigured in some sort of accident.
Monday,
May 30, 2005:
Guest
artist Dennis van Belzen has tooned
Jonathan Davis of Korn.
Mr. Davis wrote the original music score for the movie "Queen of
the Damned", based on a book from Anne Rice's vampire series, he
also played the singing voice of the vampire Lestat and had a
small cameo in the film as a ticket scalper.
Friday,
May 27, 2005:
It's
guest artist juggling, back to another piece by Catherine
Piskareva, PJ Harvey.
Being the band was named after Polly Jean, she was actually able
to shift her trio to a solo act without a name change and
continues to wail solo today.
Thursday,
May 26, 2005:
Guest
artist Rick Welch has another toon for you.
U2.
These Irish fellows actually started in high school as a Beatles
and Rolling Stones cover band.
Wednesday,
May 25, 2005:
Another
returning guest artist, Daniel Gonzalez, brings us a "chibi"
Tool. Gaining their
popularity after Lollapalooza '93, Tool has been creeping us out
with their music videos ever since.
Tuesday,
May 24, 2005:
Catherine
Piskareva returns with another piece of guest art, this time Tori
Amos. Born Myra Ellen Amos, Tori helped bring the piano back to
rock in the early 90's.
Monday, May 23, 2005:
Lead
by Glenn Danzig, the Misfits
shocked the world between 1977 and 1983 with their horror film
imagery. They created themselves quite the cult following and have
maintained some popularity through the years due to bands covering
their songs and multiple album re-issues in the 90's.
Friday, May 20, 2005:
New
art from Tara, Matthew
Good Band. Lead by frontman Matthew Good, this Canadian band
got started back in 1995. The name was temporary
but the band reached a success they had never imagined, including
numerous awards, before they could think up a better one. Mr. Good
has since pursued a solo career.
Thursday, May 19, 2005:
Felix
brings us the British punk rockers known as
The Clash. They first appeared in
concert opening for the Sex Pistols in London back in 1976, and
got a record deal less than a year later. They maintained a
rebellious attitude throughout their career, members were
constantly in and out of jail. They didn't hit major popularity
until the early 80's, & disbanded shortly after.
Wednesday, May 18, 2005:
There
are still a collaboration pieces coming soon but until then we'll
take a break. Here is Immortal
by Juan. They are a Norwegian black
metal band that has really played out theatrics to the fullest,
keeping the mystique of painted faces and stage names since they
began.
Tuesday, May 17, 2005:
And
here's another band from Finland,
Entwine. This collaborative piece comes from Tara and Tyler.
Entwine got started in music back in 1995 as a 3-piece death metal
band but are now a quintet of gothic metal pop specializing in
dark melodies.
Monday, May 16, 2005:
Trollish
hoedown metal. That's how Finntroll
describes their style. Continuing with the collaborations, Maria
and Juan did a great job with this piece. So grab yourself a brew
and a roasted goat leg, jump in and get down with your troll self.
Friday, May 13, 2005:
No band
made glam rock as popular as Kiss
did back in the 70's and now the makeup and stage theatrics have
come back in style among modern rock bands. They were definitely
due for a RockToon on the site and this colorful, collaborative
tribute by Melissa and Tara does not disappoint.
Thursday,
May 12, 2005:
Continuing
the collaboration, today we have
Brand New which was penciled by Ivy and colored by Adam. There
is extensive work here based on years of studies in design and
color theory that the average viewing eye might not appreciate.
Wednesday,
May 11, 2005:
Presenting
the ROCKTOONS COLLABORATION! Starting today and continuing through
next week we will be featuring collaborative RockToons. This is
where one artist pencils the toon and then it gets randomly passed
to another artist that must ink, color or finish the toon however
they like. The first one is
Elvis Presley penciled by Tyler and colored by Maria.
Tuesday,
May 10, 2005:
Tomorrow
begins the first RockToons Collaboration project. You'll be

Artists. As for today, we have a very cool
Red Hot Chili Peppers
guest toon by Rick Welch.
Monday,
May 9, 2005:
Former
White Zombie frontman Robert Cummings AKA
Rob Zombie graces the site
again in toon form. This time created by Juan. Formerly Rob had
worked as a bike messenger, porn mag art director and production
assistant for the Pee Wee's Playhouse kid show.
Friday,
May 6, 2005:
Catherine
Piskareva brings us guest art of Bjork,
who was originally the lead vocalist of Icelandic rock band "The
Sugarcubes", it was in the early 90's that she launched a solo
career with a more dance & club style.
Thursday,
May 5, 2005:

the History of Ever". This guest art piece is done by Riza Turker
from... Turkey.

your eye with guest art too, so be sure to browse the
